Scott snaps at Stenson's heels

By Darren

ADAM Scott has produced a back-nine blitz to push into second place, just one shot off the lead after the opening round of the season-ending US PGA Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.

Scott had six birdies in the opening seven holes of the back nine to post a five-under-par 65, leaving him one adrift of Swede Henrik Stenson at six-under.

Americans Billy Horschel and Steve Stricker share third place after rounds of 66 left them four-under.

Scott, and Stenson for that matter, have their season-long FedEx Cup destiny in their own hands after entering the week among the top five seeds.

Should the Queenslander go on to win the tournament, he will win around $12.3 million for being both the tournament winner and the season-long points winner.

Early in the round, it didn't appear the 33-year-old was feeling the Georgia vibe despite being back in the state for the first time since winning the Masters at Augusta in April.
